The Trustees

Andrew Barr

Andrew is a freelance TV director, consultant and writer, previously head of education and religious broadcasting for BBC Scotland. Since July 2000 he has directed live drama for Channel 4 and acted as writer/presenter for Radio Scotland. With Liz Barr, his wife, he was co-author of Jobs for the Boys (Hodder, 2001), looking at the experience of women who became priests in the Anglican Church. His recent titles include Songs of Praise Lent and Easter Companion and Through the Year with Songs of Praise (Lion/BBC, 2004). Among several posts he holds that of media member of the advisory committee of the Theology and Public Issues project at New College, Edinburgh; member of the Religion in the Media Monitoring Group for the General Synod of the Church of England; board member of Jerusalem Productions and Chair of GRF Christian Radio.

Bill Fuge

Bill taught history at universities in Dublin, Belfast and Lancaster before his retirement. His personal history includes a commitment to innovation in education (he helped to administer the School of Independent Studies at Lancaster for some years) and a lifelong interest in Christian socialism. He has spent much time recently in S.E. Asia where he has been assisting in voluntary teaching.

Michael Ipgrave

Michael became Archdeacon of Southwark at the end of 2004, having previously worked as national inter-faith advisor to the Church of England. His earlier ministry has been in inner city parishes in Leicester and Japan and a (not very inner city)curacy in Rutland. He has a particular interest in inter-faith and ecumenical work and chairs the Diocesan group for mission and the Diocesan housing association.

Ermal Kirby

The Revd Ermal Kirby is a Methodist minister and currently Chairman of the London Methodist District. He was born in the Caribbean, and in addition to his pastoral ministry has worked in community development projects. He was for five years a staff member of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland, and more recently a tutor in Ethics and Church History at an Ecumenical Theological Foundation.

Mike O’Connell (Chair)

Mike lives and works on the fringe of the mainstream. He has worked predominantly in the voluntary sector both in psychology, and in international development. He is interested in people, and cares about the effect of current political, social and economic trends on their well-being.

Alyson Peberdy

Alyson is vicar of an urban priority-area parish in south east London. Her academic background is in Sociology and Social Anthropology and she was for ten years research fellow and lecturer in Health and Social Welfare at the Open University, developing courses in Death and Dying, Health Promotion and Mental Health. She has also worked in Nigeria and Papua New Guinea. Although her present post leaves little time for research, she has a strong interest in ethnic minority experience of health care. Being an ordained woman in a church which remains largely sexist keeps alive her passion for inclusivity.

Bev Thomas

Bev has worked for the last 20 years in the UK and internationally as a trainer/speaker on social justice and ‘race’ issues. She now works as a freelance consultant, trainer and lecturer. Bev is a member of the Council of the Evangelical Alliance and the African and Caribbean Evangelical Alliance. She is also the Chair of the Christian Socialist Movement.

Rosemary Watson

Rosemary has worked in the voluntary sector in the fields of adult literacy, hospice care, domestic violence, bereavement and latterly with asylum-seeking people and refugees as co-ordinator of a drop-in advice centre at Slough Refugee Support. She also has grant assessment experience through a spell working for the FC Scott Charitable Trust in Cumbria and Lancashire, and through work for BBC Children in Need. She currently lives in Cambridge, and is a member of Great St Mary’s, the University Church.

Hazel White

Hazel is Curate in a team of churches in North West Leicestershire. She has a keen interest in social justice issues, with a particular concern for the disadvantaged and the excluded, and longs for the church to be actively engaged in God’s work of transformation in the world. She is interested in theological education and encouraging Christians to develop an open-minded and enquiring approach to faith.
